Abstract
Bulimia nervosa is an eating disorder characterized by peculiar pattern of recurrent epsodic binge eating which leave the patient feeling de-pressed and guilty, a feeling of.a lack of control over eating behavior, self-induced vomiting, use of laxatives or diuretics, strict dieting or fasting or vigorous exercise in order to avoid putting on weight.
We experienced a case of 22-year-old single female patient admitted to our psychiatric ward due to recurrent binge eatings, spontaneous and self-induced vomiting and excessive overconcern about body weight and shape associated with depressive symptoms. The patient was treated with a supportive psychotherapy, symptomatic treatment and tricyclic antidepressant medication (imipramine, up to 200mg/day), and showed considerable response. From this case and literature review, it seemed to be important to pay more attention to eating problems.
